First in-game season from Battlefield 6 opened up to mixed review especially Blackwell Fields conquest

The long-awaited release of Season 1 did not go as smoothly as planned on October 28, 2025. Many players were unhappy with new conquest map introduced in Battlefield 6 due to lack of covers and inability to defend themselves.

This year Battlefield 6 came with new maps in season 1 alongside REDSEC, a free-to-play battle royale mode, where 100 players can play divided into two teams. Each team is tasked with capturing enemy positions. The game inherited iconic destructible nature of buildings as found in Fort Lyndon, which is the largest map in Battlefield.

Battlefield REDSEC can be accessed from PC, PlayStation 5 as well as Xbox X|S even without access to Battlefield game. Although if you are not an owner of Battlefield 6, you might not be able to fully use portal content which includes Battle pass rewards and XP.

Season 1 also includes portal toolset which can be used for creating custom experiences for Battlefield 6 owners. It also has a fast-paced elimination round game where squads need to eliminate each other called Gauntlet.

This year Battlefield season 1 which was launched at same time as REDSEC has introduced new map known as Blackwell Fields in conquest maps alongside three new weapons. Season 1 also has a new mode known as Strikepoint Multiplayer mode.

BF studios have also announced that there would be more seasonal updates to the game starting with California Resistance which is planned around November 18 and a Winter Offensive which will arrive on December 9. REDSEC is expected to attract players who are interested in free-to-play FPS games such as Playground Battlefield and Call of Duty: Multiplayer.

Blackwell Fields is a new map in Season 1 which is located in California in which 64 players can participate. The story behind this map is that NATO base is being attacked by PAX Armata double agents. The NATO base is an American Air base which was recently commissioned in California Badlands. According to the developers, Blackwell Fields is "an ominous large scale All-Out-Warfare map set in Southern California with military facilities and scattered homesteads under siege, all under the backdrop of breathtaking burning horizon."

First Hurdle

The announcement of REDSEC did not go unnoticed by its competitors. Before its release, Activision made announcement that it would make Call of Duty: Black Op 6 Multiplayer as well as Zombies mode free-to-play between October 28 and November 3, 2025 which ironically coincides with release date of REDSEC. There is a quite buzz in gaming market that REDSEC being free will eat into the market share of Call of Duty franchise as REDSEC is considered better game by many gaming enthusiasts.

Even after such announcement by Activision, it did not dampen excitement among Battlefield fans, and it was evident from queues in gaming servers that often resulted in long waiting time.

In-game issues

However, as the day of release of Season 1 went by there were many complaints pouring in from gamers mostly related to Blackwell Fields. Most complaints were due to lack of covers in map of Blackwell Fields. Players complained that in Blackwell Fields, there were very less covers resulting in respawning more times than normal games. The map has many flaws starting with landscape which is plain field with lack of ridges, buildings. The map mainly consists of oil rigs which do not provide optimum cover to hide. Players also complained that location of Sun in game sometimes cause hinderance to their gameplay as they are unable to locate their enemies due to sunlight striking their face.

Many gamers were angry that they were shot from enemy HQ especially sniper shots and sometimes by Anti-aircraft guns. Some gamers complained about spawn kill where a player gets killed instantly after respawning. One user, CategoryStrict8462 stated, "I can’t count the amount of times I spawn on this map and instantly have direct vision of the enemies’ capturing points. You get shot at from every angle on this map, there’s never a break. People can just spawn and start shooting you straight away."

Flying jets in Blackwell Fields

Players flying jet in this map complained that their jets were easily eliminated by AA guns that were located at enemy HQ resulting in respawning. Others also added that it was same for Helicopters too. A reddit user, OdahP commented, "When you spawn in your jet you are already getting tagged by lasers, and if you manage to fly you can only fly about 100m outside of the map. It’s insane. I don’t understand why they wanna implement jets but then make the maps and flyable area so small that you can’t even traverse or evade targets". Moreover, hardcore battlefield fans are dissatisfied due to comparison with REDSEC, a free-to-play battle royale game released by BF Studios simultaneously on October 28, 2025, as REDSEC is much better map compared to Blackwell Fields.

What gamers want from BF Studios?

Although even after bad experience from season 1, gamers have high hope from BF Studios as previously BF Studios has taken action on feedback from gamers. 

Monster energy drink skin before update

Previously, when gamers complained about the brightness from neon color of Monster energy drink skin, developers made the color less bright. Similarly, when players complained about long wait time for matching a game, developers shorten wait time resulting in a good faith in feedback policy of BF Studios.

Conclusion

Battlefield gaming community is labeling Blackwell Fields as "the worst map in BF history" on subreddit page dedicated to Battlefield due to limited airspace and uninterrupted line of sight for firing by enemies. However, developers of BF Studios are expected to work on feedback of gaming community and improve gameplay as they have previously improved on other issues. Season 1 is expected to get new updates in November as well as December which might improve opinion of gaming community when compared to current situation.
