The 2019 released debut Pokémon film, Pokémon: Detective Pikachu was the first among the films to break the curse of video-game adaptation film as it was able to garner more than $430 million worldwide. It led many to believe that more video-game adaptation films will be able to gain audience and it could develop into a genre. As during the pre-release event, Legendary Entertainment had made announcement of a sequel to the first film. Many fans of the popular anime franchise, Pokémon were eagerly waiting for any news regarding release of sequel of the 2019 film.
