Is Pikachu 2 still Happening?

 The 2019 released debut Pokémon film, Pokémon: Detective Pikachu was the first among the films to break the curse of video-game adaptation film as it was able to garner more than $430 million worldwide. It led many to believe that more video-game adaptation films will be able to gain audience and it could develop into a genre.



 As during the pre-release event, Legendary Entertainment had made announcement of a sequel to the first film. Many fans of the popular anime franchise, Pokémon were eagerly waiting for any news regarding release of sequel of the 2019 film.  

Recent news were also disturbing as it was disclosed that many of the staffs related to first film were not part of the second film. The writers of the first film, Benji Samit and Dan Hernandez stated that they were not part of the second film, however they would love to be its part. During pre-release event, Legendary Entertainment stated that Pikachu 2 was already under development and Oren Uziel was trying to build the main storyline of Pikachu 2. However, recently representatives of Oren Uziel stated that he is no longer associated with the film. Such uncertainties only add to rumors that Pikachu 2 is going to be cancelled. Oren Uziel is known for his work on 22 Jump Street as well as Mortal Kombat.



Moreover, it was announced that Legendary Entertainment have split up with Warner Brothers who were the co-financiers of the 2019 film. This has led to questioning about the financial requirement for the sequel to proceed to its completion. It was reported that in November 2022 Legendary Entertainment signed a worldwide distribution partnership with Sony Pictures replacing the deal with Warner Brothers. Even though it was clear that many films that are ongoing such as Dune and Godzilla/King Kong which are being financed jointly by Warner Brothers and Legendary Entertainment will continue as before, there was no comment about the future of Pikachu 2. It can be concluded that Pikachu 2 is not going to see the light of day due to corporate tussle.

It was also reported that Netflix is in talks with The Pokémon Company, to develop a new live-action Pokémon series. The new series will allow Netflix to showcase the previous seasons of Pokémon anime in live mode on its platform.




Even previous cast of Detective Pikachu Justice Smith was not sure about the sequel to complete. During an interview with Inverse he said, “I would love to participate in Detective Pikachu 2”. When asked further he stated, “I don’t think it’s going to happen. I really hope so though. Honestly, I’m such a huge fan, who knows, who knows? I hope so.”



Ryan Reynolds who previously worked on 2019 movie is said to be busy this year and might be not available to work in the upcoming Pikachu 2 movie. Moreover, if Ryan Reynolds becomes part of the film, it will be a small but crucial part of the film.



Recently, however news are pouring that Pikachu 2 is moving forward towards its completion. According to Deadline, Jonathan Krisel who was the co-creator of Portlandia is in talks with Legendary Entertainment to direct the sequel movie. Where as the script will be written by Chris Galletta.

When Pikachu was released in 2019, it was the best performing video game adaptation of all time. Later on, it was surpassed by Sonic the Hedgehog and the Uncharted movies. Currently, Last of Us movies are also continuing the performance of video game adaptation films.



Pikachu 2 might take a while to arrive in theatres as the script is not ready yet and only script writer and director have been confirmed by Legendary Entertainment. However, it will be preceded by Pokémon Sleep, a new game which will be released on Android as well as iOS. The new game will combine the activities of sleep tracker as well as gaming. The game will track the sleep activity of the user and depending on number of hours of sleep, the gamer will attract Pokémon in vicinity. The game divide the sleep into three forms – dozing, snoozing and slumbering.



The Pokémon company also revealed a new device known as Pokémon Go Plus Plus, which will be a new version of Pokémon Go companion and works as sleep tracker for Pokémon Sleep and as tool for Pokémon Go.



The previous film released in 2019, had rare type Pokémon Mewtwo which was the main cause of all events that occurred in the film. Fans are expecting that the new film will also have a new rare Pokémon around which the film will revolve.

Detective Pikachu was a film mixed of suspense, thriller, drama as well as comedy. Fans liked the role of Pikachu character in the movie. The new film is expected to be entertaining as first film. No release date for Pikachu 2 is announced till date.

343 Industries will reveal the synopsis of Halo Infinite through its official channels

343 Industries tweeted yesterday about the event regarding the reveal event of its campaign overview. During this event the developers will introduce the main changes that new game will showcase. In the tweet, it was mentioned that the event would occur around 6AM PT, Monday through the official channels of Xbox and 343 Industries on YouTube.  According to the synopsis, the campaign would occur on the mysterious planet named Zeta Halo. The event took place as the Banished have returned and defeated the UNSC forces resulting in occupation of Planet Zeta Halo. What makes Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart different from previous games?
