Eastward game has lot of influence from other 2D games most exclusively Legend of Zelda and Earthbound.
Looking at the artwork and color patterns it can be easily identified that it has lot of influence of Earthbound with lot of Japanese influence. It combines the 2D artworks present in games with modern technology such as dynamic lighting. Such features makes this game one of the most beautiful 2D games present in market.
Eastward follows the pattern of Legend of Zelda and allows turn based moves and role playing game for the player.
The story of Eastward follows two protagonists- John, who remains mute and Sam, who is too much talkative which gives resembles to the characters of Last of Us. Story follows their journey to find freedom in the post apocalyptic world.
Considering the dialogues in game, it can be compared with Disco Elysium with lot of cliché dialogues which can be sometimes too much cringe. Many of those dialogues are unnecessary.
In gameplay, both John and Sam has distinctive purpose as John commands the combat ability whereas Sam commands the puzzle solving ability. Since Sam has psychic power, she uses in combat to freeze enemies whereas John can use melee weapons to finish enemies. Game has many fragile walls that need to be blown up to progress in game.
Eastward gives players to play a variety of games within itself including rafting, cooking and a dungeon based game called Earth Born. These games help in bringing changes in gameplay. Enemies are simple to fight and do not posses any danger for gamers, however when facing bosses in game, it can get little threatening as bosses are much more powerful and complex and therefore difficult to handle.
