Xbox Game Pass Ultimate vs. Playstation Plus: Which one should you prefer?

Recently, it is being witnessed that both Xbox and Playstation are fighting some sort of war to acquire most number of game studios so that games made by these studios could be launched exclusively as well as show their previous games on their respective consoles.

Both Microsoft and Sony are trying to woo users to use their online subscription services which provides multiplayer services as well as free games that could be played in earlier consoles.

There is an intention among the console maker to influence the game developers to build latest games only on multiplayer mode so that users are bound to use subscription services. Earlier games had both multiplayer as well as solo playing facility and many users did not used to choose multiplayer option thus it did not added to kitty of either of the console developers. However, current scenario also demand that game exclusivity is maintained so that gamer have to choose a particular service for playing the specific game.

The Plans

Currently, Microsoft is providing Xbox Game Pass Ultimate services where it combines the features of Xbox Live Gold with Xbox Game Pass. Similarly, Sony has Playstation Plus service which gives multiplayer facilities. Playstation Plus became necessity from PS4 onwards as users will need it if they want to play online multiplayer games. 
Playstation Plus features free two PS4 games per month which can be downloaded into collections and playable till subscription is activated. Also, users get access to different deals, pre-orders and add-ons. Users also get early access to demos as well as great discounts on new games. Subscription charges for one month is $9.99 per month, $24.99 for every 3 months and $59.99 per year. Playstation Plus members will also obtain exclusive skins for free to play games such as Fortnite and Apex Legends. Members will also get access to 100GB of cloud memory to store save game progress, which can be continued on any other console that has the game installed.
In case of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, it features facilities of Xbox Game pass and Xbox Live Gold. Xbox Live Gold provides facility of online multiplayer gaming along with free games  belonging to earlier consoles that are compatible with latest one. Subscribers will get access to more than 100 games that relates to PCs, mobile phones and tablets for free. Ultimate game pass also includes the EA Play membership at zero additional cost. Gamers will be able to play trials of EA games for 10 hours. Gamers can access in-game rewards and challenges too. Moreover, cloud gaming facility is extended to subscribers which allow them to play more than 100 Xbox games on mobiles (Android) and tablets using cloud (beta). Subscribers will be able to play Xbox games on first day of their launch. Users also obtain great discount offers as well as similar offers on new games and add-ons.
Xbox is charging its members $1 for the first month as a discount charge. Members can choose between Ultimate, PC or Console based options. Gamers choosing PC or Console will need to pay $9.99 per month from second month onwards. Gamers choosing Ultimate will pay $14.99 per month starting from second month.

Battle for Supremacy

Both of Xbox and Playstation know that the most number of high profile games will impact the number of new memberships. Therefore, both companies are trying to improve the number of high profile games that are exclusively available on their platforms.

Sony recently acquired Housemarque, which was behind the game Returnal, Dead Nation and other games. Housemarque was the oldest Finnish developers who were exclusively generating content for Sony for past 26 years. Sony also has acquired Bluepoint Games which were behind Demon Souls game as well as Shadow of the Colossus.


Xbox has also accelerated acquiring new developers for its platform exclusive games. According to gamesradar.com, recently Xbox made its largest acquisition by purchasing Bethesda for $7.5 billion. Thus the latest game from Bethesda titled, Starfield will be Xbox and PC exclusive. Xbox is also in talk with Hideo Kojima to co-develop a new game exclusively for Xbox.

Expectation

Gamers can only expect that overall result from the battle between Xbox and Playstation do not impact the release of games across different platforms as it would restrict any form of crossplay in games. Although, both platforms are trying to make their games playable in PCs, it would be better if they also allow crossplay in their games, maybe not immediately but at later stage.
