With the arrival of 2021, we all were excited about the new game launch of Resident Evil series. Resident Evil 8: Village released on 7 May, 2021 is the 8th installation of the franchise that revolves around Ethan and a little village in Europe where his daughter is abducted. With the final numbers appearing in public it is confirmed that Resident Evil 8: Village  is the highest selling game of all recent games from Resident Evil series.

Resident Evil series which started in 1996 has generated record breaking sales from Resident Evil 8: Village. When compared among the games from Resident Evil series, Village sold more than 3 million copies in 4 days thus beating the record of Resident Evil 7 which was 2.5 million copies of game. When compared to other games in Resident Universe, Resident Evil 2 Remake also sold more than 3 million games and Resident Evil 3 Remake sold around 2 million games. However, when compared to game such as Resident Evil 5 and Resident Evil 6 it is still low as they sold around 4.5 million copies within 3 days.

Looking at overall success of Capcom, its most successful series is Monster Hunter series followed by Resident Evil series. During the ending of this financial year, Capcom declared that during the 25 years of Resident Evil, it was able to sell 113 million copies of games excluding the sales of Resident Evil 8: Village. Therefore, after the inclusion of the sales of copies of this game, it is expected to reach more than 116 million copies easily. Its highest successful series game, Monster Hunter has been able to sell more than 72 million copies. Even though Monster Hunter is eight years younger series it is still more successful than Resident Evil series. However, Resident Evil 8: Village has the record of more than 100,000 players concurrently playing the game.

Capcom is not looking to settle with this achievement as it will be launching new AAA games such as Monster Hunter 2:  Wings of Ruin this summer. Capcom has also mentioned in its financial report that it expect to keep improving its profit in the coming years. For the past four years, Capcom has provided record profits to its shareholders and for more than eight years it has generated growth in its operating profit.
